Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 11th January 2022

The PCC’s meeting on 11th January was held in church. Among the items discussed were:

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

We discussed how the Jubilee, which is being celebrated at the beginning of June, could be celebrated. We are hoping to work with the Parish Council and others in putting a programme of events together – no doubt a team will be needed to co-ordinate this.

As it will have to be completed in June and there would be no ongoing commitment it is hoped that some people who would be reluctant to commit to something longer term would be prepared to volunteer.

The churchyard

We are drawing up a plan to plant some trees in the churchyard to replace those which have been felled in recent years and also to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

Finance

Although we need to wait for the accounts for 2021 to be completed before we can be sure it appears that the church finances were in a healthy state at the end of the year.

The Church of England has published the statutory fees for weddings and funerals for 2022, which have been increased for inflation in line with CPI (the consumer price index).

The PCC has reviewed the fees and payments to people which we set and most of those will also be increased in line with CPI.

Church attendance for Christmas services

The total attendance at the three services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (the Crib Service, Midnight Communion and Christmas morning Communion) was 158, of whom 32 were under 16.

Almost 70 people attended the Christingle service on 12th December and 77 attended the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on 19th December. The attendance at the St Chad’s School service on 10th December was 140.

All of these figures are lower than for the years to 2019 but they are perhaps a sign that things are starting to improve.
