Favourite Hymns

As a follow up to the RSCM’s (Royal School of Church Music) Music Sunday, which we participated in at St Chad’s Church on 9 June, I thought you might be interested to see a list of the most favourite hymns selected through a hymn book survey organised by the RSCM early in 2024. These are the hymns, with hymn tunes in brackets, in ascending order of popularity:-

O Praise ye the Lord (Laudate Dominum)
In Christ alone
I heard the voice of Jesus say (Kingsfold)
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy (Corvedale )
The day, Thou gavest, Lord is ended (St Clement)
Love Divine, All loves excelling (Blaenwern)
Angel Voices, ever singing (Angel Voices)
Dear Lord and Father of Mankind (Repton)
Guide me, O thou great redeemer (Cwm Rhondda)
How shall I sing that majesty (Coe Fen)

It made me think that perhaps we should set about choosing our favourite hymns from amongst the congregation here at St Chad’s to determine our own top 10 of hymns. We could then set aside a Sunday over the summer months to sing them all. It would be interesting to see the results. If you think that this would be a good idea, just let me know!

Weekly Prayer

Becoming Dementia Friendly Church 2024-25

Lord help us accept with grace
that this journey of life
is limited both by time
and the process of growing old.
May we leave the path
a little easier to follow,
less overgrown with weeds
or thorns likely to cause pain,
an encouragement for others
to step out in faith with you.
Amen

(Faith & Worship)

If you would like to suggest (or write) a prayer for inclusion in this series please let Tracey Williams, our Dementia Friendly Church Co-ordinator, know.
