View from the Pews
“A friend in need is a friend indeed”
The earliest known use of this phrase is in the writings of Quintus Ennius (239 – 169 BC) and whilst it might sound somewhat trite to 21st Century ears, it most certainly rings true to us, as we have been overwhelmed, yet humbled, by the kindness of friends both within and without St. Chad’s during the period of our “incapacities”, which unfortunately are continuing at the time of writing.
At some point in time neither of us could drive and we had so many incredible offers of assistance for which we were so grateful and which included one church member having to drive to Stoke hospital, only returning home in the early hours of the morning.
Probably the most famous friendship in the Bible is that of David and Jonathan (1 Samuel) but in Proverbs 17.17 it says “A friend loveth at all times” . Proverbs 14.20 also says “the rich hath many friends” but to turn the meaning around we would say “how very true” because we feel very rich in having so many wonderful friends and are so very thankful for all the kindnesses we have received . Again another “hidden” meaning in the phrase is, if one splits the word indeed into two parts (in and deed), then a true friend performs a kind deed to the one in need and this also is true.
Happily, by the end of the month we will both be back to a semblance of “normality”! but again we are so thankful to be part of the lovely community that is St. Chad’s.

Pattingham Village Fete
The new format was a great success and we are very grateful for all the hard work put in by Alix and Keith and their army of volunteers. The net proceeds are about £5,500 compared to £3,100 last year. The final figure and the breakdown will be in next week’s ChadNet and on the church website once it’s available.
A big thank you to the various sponsors of the event, notably the Mercers and Berriman Eaton, and everybody who turned up on the day to help, including the ATC.
The raffle and bottle stall were particularly successful from a monetary point of view and the new attractions such as hook a duck, name the teddy and play your cards right were successful. Thanks also to the refreshment people (there were a lot of cakes!) and those who donated raffle prizes. It was a bit hairy setting up in the pouring rain in the morning but it all came together in the afternoon.
Here’s to 5th July 2025!
Volunteers
We are very grateful to all those who have answered the recent requests for volunteers. Many of you volunteered to help with the Fete in lots of different ways and that helped to make the Fete the great success that it was. We have also had a number of volunteers to join the ranks of sidespersons and we look forward to them taking their places on the rota in due course.
Those who get the magazine will have seen that we are in need of volunteers to join the rota of flower arrangers for the church. Please think about whether you could join the rota or if you know someone else who could. For more information speak to Margaret Harris, who leads the Flower Guild, on 700685.

The Well – the Wolverhampton Food Bank
The Well continues to need our donations and prayers.
The box remains at the rear of the church for donations of food and toiletries and the wishing well for donations of cash. Foreign coins can be put into the wishing well (in a separate bag please) and they will also go to help the needy in Wolverhampton.
Thank you
Dementia Friendly Church
Weekly Prayer
Dear Lord
You looked down on me, chose me, and singled me out,
as I lived as a good Christian and without any doubts.
Please help people to understand, dementia is not just for the old,
it has no parameters and preys totally uncontrolled.
Help people to not judge me, avoid me, for not remembering their name, forgetting words, losing my way, it`s all part of dementia`s game.
Lord, help me be brave, to fight, continue to survive.
With my friend`s support, my family spurring me to strive.
Please be by their side and hold their hands tight,
as they walk dementia with me, with all of their might.
Amen
