“FOLLOW THE STAR” ……
This Christmas St.Chad’s Church is holding its first “Follow the Star” event – on three days in December you will be able to view a wonderful variety of stars, some three dimensional, some hand-drawn – some coloured, some lit – some will be outside, but mostly they will be displayed or hanging inside the Church itself.
The event will take place on Friday 13th December 12-4pm, on Saturday 14th December 10-4pm and on Sunday 15th December 12-3pm. There will be no entry charges – just the chance to try some local star gazing in the warmth of St.Chad’s, and maybe give a donation in appreciation of the star-makers handiwork and towards the upkeep of our beautiful village Church.
On the Friday evening at 7.30pm in Church there will be an opportunity to learn more about the ‘Star of Bethlehem’ at a talk given by Doug Bickley of the Perton Astronomical Society. This will be a ticketed event at £8 per person, to include mulled wine and a mince pie. Tickets will be available shortly from Jill on 01902 700755 or .
We wish this to be a village community event and recently sent the following email to our contacts who in the past have made scarecrows or decorated Christmas trees:
“We would like to involve as many of our talented Pattingham residents to take part in this event by inviting you to create “stars” for display – as an individual, with some friends, a group of neighbours maybe or a village organisation / commercial premises – the choice of star material is yours but we do set a maximum size of 1 sq.metre please. Battery operated lights will be permitted.
To help us gauge the number of star hanging points required, would you please indicate by email to me BY OCTOBER 21st AT THE LATEST if you would like to join us by making a DECORATED STAR. We look forward to hearing from you. Chrissie () “
Several folk have already ‘signed up’ to be involved in the event – we would welcome many more so please spread the word to anyone you know who would like to join in.
If you would like any further information concerning this event, please phone 07974032075 or 01902 700955 and speak to Debbie Sims.

Baby grand piano – scam
A reminder that the notice about the baby grand piano which was published recently in ChadNet and the Parish News magazine is fraudulent. If you know anyone who might be at risk of falling for it please let them know.
Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal
We are again taking part in the annual Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal which asks people to fill a shoebox for a family or an elderly couple. It’s a really simple idea, anyone can get involved. Just fill a shoebox with items for a family or an elderly couple – not just a child.
The appeal has been running since 1992 and over the years has delivered smiles to thousands of people in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. I do hope that we can do something to help these people, for whom life really is a struggle, especially in these difficult times. Last year we collected a record of 56 boxes. I wonder if we can beat that this year?
There are leaflets at the back of church and it is important to check the leaflet as they are very particular what can and cannot, be included.
More details can be found on the Link to Hope website at <https://linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-appeal-2024/> and on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/news-and-events/shoe-box-appeal-2024/>.
I ask that boxes are brought to me, or left at the back of church, by Friday 1st November – to allow me time to take them to the collection point.

All Souls Memorial Service
The All Souls Memorial Service will be held at 6.30 pm on Sunday 27th October. We will remember by name all those for whom funerals have been held in the last 2 years and those whose names are in the Memorial Book who have died within the last 6 years.
There is a list at the back of church to allow the addition of other names. The list will be removed on Thursday 24th October. Please ensure any names are placed on the list before that date.
The Well – the Wolverhampton Food Bank
The Well continues to need our donations and prayers. The box remains at the rear of the church for donations of food and toiletries and the wishing well for donations of cash.
If you wish to know more about the work of The Well, or would like to know how you can support it in other ways, do connect via their website, where you can sign up to the newsletter and link to their Social Media pages: <www.thewellwolverhampton.co.uk>
Dementia Friendly Church
Weekly Prayer
Merciful God
As I face this year
My journey with dementia continues
As I do my best to walk the path set before me
Please guide my feet along the way
Guide my thinking and relating
See me though the rough patches
And help me enjoy the good times that come
God of all of living
Remind me of your constant presence when I feel alone
Open my eyes to those who show their care and support
And give me to help others as I am able
God of compassion
Soothe my anxiety
Help me sort out my confusion
Comfort my sadness
Hold me in my fear
And carry me when I can go no further
Amen
(“Reflections of Hope for people living with dementia Claire Craig and Rosemary Hurtley, published by CWR)
If you would like to suggest (or write) a prayer for inclusion in this series please let Tracey Williams, our Dementia Friendly Church Co-ordinator, know.
