ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

Barbara Tritton

Today I have been doing the ironing. You may be surprised, but I do actually enjoy the task: smoothing the creases out of the clothes, listening to the radio, and feeling a sense of satisfaction as I carry the basket of ironing upstairs to put the things away.

There is, however, one exception: the Best White Tablecloth. This a beautiful item with cut-work and lace but it is a real challenge to iron without trailing it over the ironing board on to the floor, or catching the toe of the iron into the lacy parts. That is why this beautiful object doesn’t come out of the cupboard very often.

How do you tackle the ironing? Sometimes I look at the pile and start with the easiest items: hankies, tea towels, pillowcases; next come blouses and shirts and then, when I’m pleased with the progress I’m making, I’ll tackle ironing trousers, and then – The Tablecloth. Other days, I’m feeling strong-minded, and will pick out the awkward items first, and with a sense of satisfaction, race through the hankies etc. afterwards.

I wonder, is my attitude to ironing the same as our attitude to life? Do we balk at the difficult decisions and tasks, or do them first in order to get them done? I go to a French group each week, and I still leave my homework until the morning of the lesson; I still haven’t learnt to prepare it earlier in the week.

As the weeks go by, it’ll soon be Easter, and we read how brave Jesus was. A large part of the Gospels tells us how he set off on his journey to Jerusalem. He knew exactly what was waiting for him when he got there, but he did his Father’s will.

We will never have to face anything like that, but there are lots of challenges in our lives; lots of tasks at church and at home. Do we roll up our sleeves and tackle them, easy or difficult ones first, or, shall we be like someone I know who blithely tells me, “I never do any ironing”?

Dementia Friendly Church

Weekly Prayer

Becoming Dementia Friendly Church 2024-25

Dear Lord
Your word says that you will keep the minds of those who fixate on you in perfect peace.
At times it is hard to recollect certain things and it is a struggle to push through this condition, but we thank you for being our everlasting peace.
We pray that you are always at the centre of our mind, because when we have you we have everything.
Your divine peace is what surpasses all understanding.
Amen
