Everybody Welcome

At St Chad’s we have been practising “Everybody Welcome” for some time. However, it is not just a slogan because we try to make it a reality. Last Sunday morning was a good example when we had 74 people in the congregation really enjoying the worship and the fellowship that goes with it.

When we gather together like this it is easy to forget those members of our church family who for a variety of reasons are not able to attend in person. Some are housebound and a number are in residential or nursing care. This latter group is easier to identify, and we have decided that they should be remembered in our intercessions one Sunday a month. It will be on the second Sunday so they can be remembered at both the morning and evening services. This will help us to keep these people in our thoughts and prayers.

I know that some of the congregation visit several of those in care and that is great because it makes them feel included in our fellowship.

There are five members in care that we know of, Gordon Bramall, Norma Challinor, Dorcas Dearne, Pauline Lloyd and Lesley Stockall.

We can also pray for the housebound on request and remember that we have several members of the congregation who are willing to take Home Communion to anyone who requests it.

Thinking about the welcome at St Chad’s reminds us that it would be wonderful to welcome a new Vicar into the church community. So, the news this week that two people have applied for the post is extremely encouraging. There will be an interview in the middle of March, and they have both been shortlisted for that.

In all our prayers we need to pray for the candidates and for those who will be involved in the selection process, Dorothy Steel and Philip Sims. After an interregnum of almost four years, we are more than ready for a new incumbent.

We have sustained a thriving church community in Pattingham, but there is the potential, with the right leadership,  to grow even more and extend our Christian witness to those in the village and those who cannot get to church.

Easter cards

Easter Art Competition to create the St Chad’s Church Easter Card Front cover …

In 2024, the St Chad’s Church Christmas card featured the winning entry from the very successful children’s painting competition on the front of the card, so we have decided to repeat the competition to find the Easter Card front cover, but to extend it and encourage entries from everybody.

This Easter card from the church is delivered to every house in the parish, with the front of the card having the winning entry with Easter greeting. We are seeking an artwork, collage or other image, with the winning entry being scanned and featured on the front of the card, which will be A4 folded to form an A5 front.

Calling all local artists! Why not have a go? It doesn’t have to be a painting… You can express yourself in your favourite art form.

Full details are on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/easter-card-competition-2025/> from which the entry form can be downloaded.

Flyers with details and entry forms are at the back of the church and can also be downloaded from the website.

The competition is open to anyone. The closing date is Sunday 2nd March.

Please spread the word to anyone you may feel would be interested.

Should you have any queries about this competition, please contact Alan Smith – Phone: 07757 688518 (leave message, if no answer) – Email:

Dementia Friendly Church

Weekly Prayer

Becoming Dementia Friendly Church 2024-25

A Caregiver`s Prayer

Lord provide strength, to face each new day, knowing you are always there.
Give patience, when frustration rises.
Provide guidance on the journey, knowing some days are  mountains, some days are valleys and some are quiet days beside still waters.
Grant wisdom, to know how to handle daily cares.
Teach what is needed to provide comfort knowing heart and hand go together.
Strengthen hands and feet as we travel this road together.
Give knowledge to see the beauty in the shadows, for a shadow is only cast in the presence of light.
You are the bright  light and eternal hope, that brings us through each dark night and leads us in each new day.
Amen

(Caregiver quotes)

If you would like to suggest (or write) a prayer for inclusion in this series please let Tracey Williams, our Dementia Friendly Church Co-ordinator, know.
