View from the Pews

This is one of my favourite flowers in the garden; its botanical name is Ipomoea, but it’s commonly known as Morning Glory. The variety I grow has trumpet shaped flowers in vibrant colours of purple and pink which are so beautiful. During the last few weeks, they have been at their best. The only snag is: each flower only lasts one day.
Every morning a new crop will gradually open and reveal their stunning colours, but, as the day passes, these flowers slowly die, so that by late afternoon and into the evening, the petals have closed and the flowers have wilted. Not to worry, however; by the next morning a new batch of buds will be opening, to continue the cycle.
Morning Glories always remind me how precious a day is. What are we going to do with it? I like the famous motto Carpe Diem, literally, “seize the day”, because today won’t come again. What does God want me to do today? How shall I make the most of it? Who am I going to meet?
It’s evening time as I write this, and today’s Morning Glories are shrivelled up, but by tomorrow there’ll be a new batch, and a new day for us all. Let’s really enjoy it.
Carpe Diem!
Barbara Tritton

Gaza
You will recall that Alan Smith wrote a View from the Pews in ChadNet for 22nd June about The Fast for Gaza. He wrote to our MP, Mike Wood, and has had a reply which he thought may be of interest to readers of ChadNet. It can be seen on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/chadnet/chadnet-no-274/gaza-letter-from-mp/>
Message from Maureen Hobbs
Our previous Vicar, Maureen Hobbs, continued to receive ChadNet after she retired but has now ceased doing so. She sent the following message:
When I retired 4 years ago, I asked to continue receiving ChadNet during the interregnum. Now that you have a new Vicar it is appropriate that I cut my remaining ties and allow Merry to take on the joyful responsibility of caring for the community of Pattingham and Patshull.
I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers, but from a distance.
But if anyone is ever travelling in this part of the world – the Wirral – you are always welcome to contact me.
God bless you all.
Reverend Maureen.
Ukraine Refugee Centre
Mary Hayward sent this message after she took donations to the Ukraine Refugee Centre on Friday:
As usual my boot was full of your kind donations. The Manager and volunteers are overwhelmed by your generosity!
I asked if there was anything particular they were short of:
- Ladies clothes
- Toiletries (including sanitary products)
However all household items and children’s items are still very welcome. Also if anyone is updating their smart TV or getting rid of a sofa bed that would be appreciated.
My next planned visit will be 19th September.
Thank you all so much
God Bless
Mary Hayward

Dementia Friendly Church
Weekly Prayer

I am but a child, not in body but sometimes in my mind.
I might not always be aware,
But Lord I know somewhere you are there.
On the days I am far away.
You are with me,
Each and every minute through the day.
I offer up a daily prayer,
One of love to those who care,
Those who meet my daily needs,
For which I might not always show I`m pleased.
Lord when my days are up and down,
To you I talk and pray,
You give me strength, you reassure,
You guide me on my way.
Without you, how would I get through?
Just let your love shine like a light through my fog,
Oh Lord I do love you.
Amen
