ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

Alan Smith

There have been a number of events in church over the past couple of years or so – Follow the Star, Much Wenlock Male Voice Choir, Christmas Tree Festival, Staffordshire Band, all successful in their different way; you can probably name others.

Last Saturday’s Hymns & Pimm’s, though, must rank right up there. Over 80 souls joined a joyous singalong, with hymns including Colours of Day, Cwm Rhondda, Lord of the Dance and One More Step to name but a few. Thanks to everybody who sent in requests – those not used (including mine!) have been retained for another time.

We were blessed with the musical skills of Martin, Cath (both of whom also played the bass guitar), Peter, John, Kearon and Rev Merry. Some £357 was raised from donations and the raffle in support of the Haven Refuge. Thanks to Tony and Lisa for organising the service.

Next up are the Scarecrow Festival events. There is a Barn Dance in the Village Hall on Friday 26th September, tickets available from Anna Davies at

Then on Saturday 27th, in church, we welcome back the Staffordshire Band for ‘Sounds Of Brass’.When they entertained us two years ago it was a great occasion and we anticipate the same again. Tickets from Alan Smith at or any member of the PCC.

The concert will be in aid of two charities, Village by Village and Midland Freewheelers Blood Bikes. The former supports work in Ghana to provide long term solutions to lack of clean water, sanitation and education, literally moving ‘village by village’. The latter delivers an urgent motorcycle courier service to the NHS, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, all provided by volunteers including our friend, Keith Eden.

Please try to support these events if you can and let’s all enjoy the 2025 Scarecrow Festival.

Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal

Link to Hope

The time is upon us to prepare our shoe boxes for the Link to Hope appeal.

The charity asks us to prepare a shoebox of items suitable to help a poor family or an elderly couple in Eastern Europe.

Last year we collected 49 boxes in Pattingham. I wonder if we can beat that this year. We will need to collect them by 26th October, a little earlier than usual, but I do hope that we can do something to help these people, for whom life really is a struggle, especially in these difficult times.

There are leaflets at the back of church (and on the church website) which give greater details and make suggestions about what they would like us to include in the boxes. It is important to read the instructions on the leaflet which clearly define what you can put in the boxes. Due to customs and import regulations, you cannot just put anything in but there are loads of items to choose from.

More details can be found on the Link to Hope website at <https://linktohope.co.uk/shoebox-appeal-2025/> and on the church website at <https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/news-and-events/shoe-box-appeal-2025/>.

I ask that boxes are brought to me, or left at the back of church, by Sunday 26th October – to allow me time to take them to the collection point.

Dementia Friendly Church

Weekly Prayer

Becoming Dementia Friendly Church 2024-25

Shepherd of my path, so I have dementia.
Give me grace to accept this as part of the pattern of my life and that of others.
May I enjoy the present moment and all the life I have yet to live.
Grant me humility to accept the assistance I will need.
I give you gratitude for all those I am finding who so readily offer that help.
Lord, you walked an unwelcome path you feared into a dark unknown.
It took greater courage than mine to do that willingly.
In my darkening path, take me by the hand and share your courage with me.
Amen

(Prayers for Dementia, and how to live it well.  Fay Sampson)

If you would like to suggest (or write) a prayer for inclusion in this series please let Tracey Williams, our Dementia Friendly Church Co-ordinator, know.
