ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

Jo Bramall

Since my retirement I have been filling my time with drawing and painting. I painted as a child and picked up my brushes again about 2 years ago.

Robin painting

One of my first watercolours was a robin.  I first had the idea to use this to make a charity Christmas card well over a year ago.  Now, thanks to the extra time afforded by retirement, the plan has come to fruition.  Today I took delivery of 200 packs of cards that I hope to sell in aid of The Well and Compton Hospice.  Other than the printing costs, the entire amount will be donated to these two charities.

I am hoping that enough people will buy these cards to enable me to make a donation to these two charities before Christmas.  Cards can be purchased from me.

10,000 reasons

As some of you know, I had some pieces included in a recent exhibition and many of these pieces were inspired by the music and architecture of St. Chad’s.  I have also created a quiz based on one of these paintings (10,000 reasons).  The money raised by the £5 entry fee will be donated to The Well.

The quiz works a bit like a “Spot the Difference” but in this case you will need to identify as many architectural features of the church that appear on the canvas and match them to photographs taken in and around the church.  The winner will be whoever identifies the most matches correctly and can identify the hymn that also appears in the picture.  The winner will win the original picture and a box of chocolates.   Entry forms will be available at the back of church and completed entries are to be handed in to me along with the entry fee by Sunday 14th December.

easyfundraising

Would you like the church to get money when you shop online at no cost to you?

Would you like the church to get £2 simply for signing up?

easyfundraising is a way to raise money for the church when making purchases online from a number of major retailers. The amounts which the retailers donate vary but are often 1% or more. To participate you need to download their app or register online. Until the end of this month they will donate £2 to the church for each new user who downloads the app and registers to support the church.

To download the app visit <www.easyfundraising.org.uk/easyfundraising-app> and you will then need to select the cause to support. If you search for “Pattingham” you will find St Chad’s Church among others. If you don’t want to use the app you can simply go to the website at <www.easyfundraising.org.uk>.

When you are transferred to the retailer’s website you shop as normal, logging in if necessary.  Also, you don’t lose any retailer benefits from loyalty schemes.

Graham Tritton and Geoffrey Dann are using this already and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Prayers for Peace

A group of people meet each Tuesday evening in church at 6 pm for about 15 minutes to pray for peace. Anyone who wishes to come and join them is welcome to do so.

In December and January they will meet only once a month – on the 16th December and 20th January. On those weeks when it is not being held in church some people may wish to pause and say a prayer of their own at that time. It is expected to resume weekly in February.

The Well – the Wolverhampton Food Bank

The Well

The Well continues to need our donations and prayers. The box remains at the rear of the church for donations of food and toiletries and the wishing well for donations of cash.

Thank you for your generosity.

If you wish to know more about the work of The Well, or would like to know how you can support it in other ways, do look at their website <www.thewellwolverhampton.co.uk>

Dementia Friendly Church

Weekly Prayer

Friend of the Friendless

When I look around me, I see friends and acquaintances with dementia.  It is tempting to look away and tell myself it is somebody else`s problem.
Shepherding Christ,  you went out of your way to find the lonely and the lost. Grant me compassion and insight to feel what it is like for someone who is losing their memory, increasingly adrift in a once familiar world.  Let me be the one to hold out a hand that can anchor them to the life and friendships they knew.
Grant me the wisdom to see how I can help their carer and the will and energy to act on that knowledge.  Let me not make excuses.  Save me from being the one who passes by on the other side of the road.
Lord, you were always ready to speak out for those in need.  Guide me to find out more about dementia.  Give me commitment to be a Dementia Friend and to advocate greater understanding in the community.
May I have your courage not to back away from the unfamiliar, but to reach out the hand of love.
Amen

(Prayers for Dementia and how to live well with it. Fay Sampson)

If you would like to suggest (or write) a prayer for inclusion in this series please let Tracey Williams, our Dementia Friendly Church Co-ordinator, know.
