ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull

Welcome to this week’s edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

ChadNet

From this week we have changed the way in which ChadNet is sent out. There have been problems sending to some subscribers so we have decided to use a system called MailerLite. We hope that will solve the problem and will not introduce new problems.

If you find any issues please email to let us know.

All editions of ChadNet, from the first to the latest one, are available on the church website (www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk). On the home page there is a link to the latest one and also a link to the ChadNet page where all the earlier ones can be found.

In this week’s ChadNet:

View from the Pews

Debbie Sims

Taken from Amazing Grace,
366 Inspiring Hymn Stories for Daily Devotions
.

So often in our modern lives we attack our problems with frantic and hurried activity, creating unnecessary stress for ourselves. We easily forget that our heavenly Father can assist us in meeting our daily challenges with serenity and calm assurance. We need the quiet confidence in God and a peaceful resting in his eternal love that is reflected in this beautiful text by John Greenleaf Whittier, a American Quaker poet.

‘A good hymn is the best use to which poetry can be devoted, though I do not claim to have succeeded in writing one’ wrote Whittier. His editors have since produced seventy-five hymns from his poetry.

John Greenleaf Whittier’s life expressed the steadfast rest in his heavenly Father’s love that these words suggest. As you read, decide how to let Him guide you and give you peace in this hectic world.

Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our fev’rish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind; in purer lives Thy service find,
in deeper rev’rence praise. In deeper rev’rence praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard. beside the Syrian sea,
the gracious calling of the Lord. let us like them without a word
rise up and follow Thee. Rise up and follow Thee.

Drop thy still dews of quietness ‘till all our strivings cease;
take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess
the beauty of Thy peace. The beauty of Thy peace.

Breathe thru the heats of our desire, Thy coolness and Thy balm:
let sense be dumb, let flesh retire, speak thru the earthquake, wind and fire,
O still small voice of calm! O still small voice of calm!

We all have those frantic days, where time runs away from us and we feel a tightness in our muscles and frustration with the world around us. The next time this happens to you maybe find time to sit, be it late at night or over a coffee and listen to the still dews of quietness or to that still small voice and let calm be restored, you may find the trillions of jobs get finished much easier!
