Volunteering – Making a Difference in Pattingham

A strong and caring community is built by people who are willing to give a little of their time to help others. Volunteering can be rewarding in many ways — it brings people together, creates new friendships, helps us learn new skills and, most importantly, makes Pattingham an even better place in which to live.

St Chad’s Church is at the heart of our community and is keen to develop and support activities that bring benefits to local people. To do this, we need the support of volunteers who can offer their time, skills or simply a willingness to lend a helping hand.

Whether you have an hour to spare occasionally or would like to become more involved, your contribution can make a real difference. There are many ways to help, from assisting at community events and activities to helping with practical tasks or supporting our outreach to others.

You don’t need any special experience — just enthusiasm and a desire to help.

If you would like to get involved, please speak to Vicar Merry, me (Tony) or any member of St Chad’s Church.

Together, we can help build an even stronger, friendlier and more supportive community in Pattingham.

Sunday 27th September – Harvest Thanksgiving

At 10 am there will be an All Age Communion service for Harvest, led by the Vicar, in church. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available after the service.

At 6.30 pm there will be an Evening Communion Service for Harvest, led by the Vicar, in church.

Those attending either service are encouraged to bring harvest gifts
which will be presented for blessing during the service and will then
be donated to The Well foodbank. See below for a list of items which they are asking for.

In the Parish Prayer Diary we pray for:
Farmers and those who are involved in producing food.

In the Trysull Deanery Prayer Diary we pray for:
St Michael & All Angels, Himley.

This week

The church will be open every day. Look out for the “church open” sign outside the porch.

This is not a week when the Prayers for Peace group meets but some members of the group will be in church on Tuesday at 6 pm to say prayers. Anyone is welcome to join them.

On Wednesday at 10.00 am there will be a service of Holy Communion according to the Book of Common Prayer, led by Revd Paul Brown, in church which will be followed by tea, coffee and cake.

After the service the church will be open from 10.30 am until at least 11.00 am as a Place of Welcome when anyone who wants to will be welcome to share in the coffee, cake and chat, whether they have been to the service or not. Those attending will receive a warm welcome.

At 12 noon there is a Memorial Service for Pamela Hatton in church.

At 6 pm on Wednesday the Pattingham Shower Singers meet in church. If you haven’t yet ventured in but would like to, why not give it a try?  No charge, no commitment, just lots of fun.If you need more information contact Alix at .

At 7 pm on Wednesday Choir Practice takes place in church. Anyone interested in joining the choir should contact Martin Fox or any member of the choir.

At 2.30 pm on Saturday the wedding of David Sampson and Ann Walker takes place in church. All are welcome to come and join them for this happy, informal WEDDING CEREMONY. Dave and Ann hope to see you there!

Sunday 4th October – Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity

At 10 am there there will be a service for God’s Creation, led by Henry Ibberson and Alan Smith, in church. It will be a thanksgiving service for all our pets. There will not be a Communion service. Come and join us for this wonderful celebration – and bring your pets! The service will be for all the family to enjoy. If your pet is shy, or too big or small to come – bring a photo! Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available after the service.

At 1 pm the Baptism of Ruby Tomes takes place in church.

From 2 pm to 4 pm in the Village Hall Committee Room the process of attaching the poppies to the netting for the Poppies Installation will begin. If anyone would like to assist in this process your help would be gratefully appreciated and of course refreshments will be available (please contact Tracey on 07084 039330 to confirm either by text or voicemail).

At 6.30 pm there will be a service in the Iona style, led by Iain Coleman, in church.

In the Trysull Deanery Prayer Diary we pray for:
St Michael & All Angels, Tettenhall Regis.

Currency appeal

The heatwaves are over and holiday memories are fading.

You will recall that two years ago our currency appeal raised over £160 for the Well food bank. If you have spare notes and coins stuffed in a drawer, no matter how old (obsolete currency is acceptable), please put it into the well, in a separate bag, at the rear of the church.

Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal

A reminder about the Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal. Details are on the church website at https://www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/news-and-events/shoe… It is important to follow the instructions.

Boxes need to be taken to Barbara Tritton or left at the back of church by Sunday 25th October. If you don’t have a box some are available at the back of the church.

Ukraine Refugee Centre

Mary Hayward sent the following message after her latest visit taking the donations to the Ukraine Refugee Centre.

Hello everyone
Today we filled two cars with your wonderful donations to the Ukraine Centre! A huge thank you to my daughter Anna for helping to load up the cars. Thank you also to Jane Horton for providing a second car to deliver the donations.

Your kindness and generosity never fails to amaze me
Today we delivered:

  • Fresh vegetables
  • Tinned food
  • Crisps
  • Cans and bottles of pop
  • Children’s sweets (which will be given to the children at the Halloween Party)
  • Children’s books, games and soft toys
  • Small electrical items
  • Dinner Service
  • Household items
  • Toiletries
  • Medication (to be sent to Ukraine 🇺🇦)
  • Children’s clothes
  • Children’s trainers
  • Ladies boots
  • Ladies clothes
  • Raffle prizes
  • Cash donations

Greg, the Centre Manager, will write to extend his thanks soon.

This month they will be packing away all the summer clothes so if you are donating ladies/children’s clothing could they be Autumn / Winter items please?

At the moment the Centre supports approximately 400 Ukrainians in Wolverhampton and surrounding districts!

Please continue to support this wonderful organisation.
