Snippets from the PCC meeting – 29th September 2020

The PCC’s meeting on 29th September was the sixth held over Zoom due to the covid-19 restrictions.

Worship

The Harvest Festival service which was held on the playing field was successful. 76 people attended and they were all safely socially distanced. We are now looking at plans for All Souls’ Sunday, which will be a recorded service, and for Remembrance Sunday, when we expect to have another service outside, this time in front of the Village Hall.

Looking slightly further ahead – although it will soon be upon us – the PCC has been trying to decide how we can “do Christmas”. A number of ideas being actively considered.

We will certainly not be able to have the usual number of people in church so some form of booking will be needed for those services which are able to take place. Look out for further details nearer the time.

Finance

The church’s financial situation continues to be difficult.

The diocese is also facing a shortfall due to the pandemic but it has decided to help all of the parishes in the diocese by offering a credit of one and a half months’ worth of the parish share, which is the contribution which the parishes pay to the diocese.

This will mean a credit of just over £5,500 for St Chad’s, which, although it is significantly less than our anticipated shortfall this year, will reduce the extent to which we need to draw on our reserves to balance the books.
