Snippets from the PCC Meeting – 18th June 2024
The meeting on June 18 was held in church. PCC members also spent a day at Boningale Church on June 29 when we considered more strategic issues and reviewed the Mission Action Plan which we had agreed last year. Among the matters discussed were:
Chalice assistants, local lay ministers and sidesmen
The PCC has to review the lists of those who are authorised to administer the chalice at services, to lead services and to be sidesmen. That has been done and we are glad that we have had some volunteers to become chalice assistants and sidesmen.
As we are in interregnum the Rural Dean has to approve the chalice assistants and the service leaders and she has given her approval. The document which sets out the duties of sidesmen is being revised as there have been some changes in recent years. Once that is done training will be arranged for both new and existing sidesmen.
Holiday club
We have decided that there will not be a Holiday Club this year. When the youth and family worker is appointed they will be involved in planning something for next year.
Church cleaning
Our cleaner, Mandy, does a wonderful job but there are areas which are difficult to reach which are in need of a “spring clean”. Clive is organising a cleaning blitz on Saturday, August 17, from 10 am to 12 noon, when we hope that lots of volunteers will come to give the church a thorough clean. Refreshments will be provided.
Dementia training
As part of our work as a dementia-friendly church we are hosting a training session on Saturday, October 12, in the Village Hall. It will be led by Sarah Thorpe, the dementia-friendly church enabler for the Diocese of Lichfield. Anyone is welcome to attend but places need to be booked to manage numbers.
Collections at services
For a few years we have not been taking collections at services but there has been a plate at the back of the church for offerings, along with card machines. We have decided to reintroduce taking collections during services from the beginning of August.
We realise that many people give to the church in other ways – including Giving Direct, paying into the bank, using the card machines – so they would not be expected to put anything into the bag as it is passed round.
Youth and family worker
We have made the decision to extend the role of the proposed families’ and children’s worker to include teenagers. The job title has been changed to youth and family worker and plans to advertise the post are in hand.
PCC members
The members of the PCC are:
Philip Sims (Chairman), Tony Ainsworth, Iain Coleman, Milly Colin-Stokes, Geoffrey Dann, Henry Ibberson, Clive Pendrell, Alan Smith, Dorothy Steel, Graham Tritton and Tracey Williams.
