Snippets from the PCC meeting – 26th October 2017
At its meeting on 26th October the PCC discussed a number of matters:
Return. This was Maureen’s first meeting since her knee operation and she said that it was nice to be back and that she was grateful for everything which everyone had done in her absence.
Bells Run. The Bells Run had been very successful. There were 508 entries for the 10km run and 68 for the 5km run. The new 5km run had been well received. The net profit of just over £3,700 is being split 50/50 between the church and Acorn’s Hospice.
Scarecrow Festival. The Scarecrow Festival had also been successful and had raised over £13,000. £5,000 is being given to the school for new security gates and we are considering which project the remainder should be used for. In previous years it has been used for work on the porch, including the new doors and the stonework in the Apex, which has now been completed.
Both of these events were great community events, involving many people from the village, both churchgoers and others, as well as attracting many visitors to our village. We are very grateful to all who helped in running both of these events.
Lunches. The “Who’s for Lunch” buffet lunches continue to be well supported. There will not be one in December and they will resume in January.
Parish News. There had been 22 new subscriptions for the magazine since the free September issue.
It was agreed to produce a leaflet to be delivered to all homes in the parish with the Christmas card, as was done last year.
Alzheimer’s Society. A presentation by the Alzheimer’s Society was held in September and we discussed how we could respond to the issues raised.
Heating. We heard about the work on the heating system, which was progressing but taking longer than expected. Once that has been completed we will be able to progress other projects which are being planned, including the reordering of the Lady Chapel and further improvements to the lighting in the church.
St. Alban’s. We heard about ideas and plans which Sam Leach, the Vicar of St.Alban’s, Ashmore Park, has for his church. This is our partner church in the “Close the Gap” project, with which we have been developing links over the past four years. We looked at ways in which we could help them with those plans.
School links. To support the links between St. Chad’s School and Mwiyenga ACK Primary School in Kenya we agreed to make a donation towards the cost of a teacher from Kenya visiting Pattingham.
War graves. As there are war graves in the churchyard we agreed to a request from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to put a plaque by the lychgate.
