‘Churchwardens’ Chat’

We are now in an interregnum following the retirement of the Vicar and so the monthly letter for the Parish News is written by the Churchwardens

Welcome to Advent, preparing for the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

Advent is a time of preparation, looking forward to Christmas and celebrating the birth of Our Lord but it is also a time for remembering, thinking about, and giving thanks for, loved ones far away, or for those no longer with us.

It gives us the opportunity to recall situations and experiences and to reflect on them. By doing this we can see what was good and how we may repeat them and what we have learnt about how to do things differently.

This is especially important now for us as a church, because as we come to the close of 2022 and are planning for 2023, we need to hear from you. We want you to tell us about anything you feel we should do differently, or anything you particularly enjoyed that we should repeat.

We pray 2023 will bring us a new vicar and we want to be able to share your thoughts and views on how things have felt for you in 2022. To capture your suggestions and ideas we will put a box at the back of church with paper for you to jot down your thoughts and put them in the box.

We need to hear from everyone, young and old, new to our church or long-standing members.

Make sure you get the most out of our Christmas celebrations and worship by checking details in this magazine and on ChadNet; you will find there is something for the whole family.

There is our Christingle service, the carol service and the crib service to name but three. We have also planned a ‘Christmas Experience’ for pupils from St. Chad’s School, taking place in church on December 5 and 6 and we look forward to welcoming the children into church to share the Christmas Story in a very memorable way.

We are finalising plans for our Christmas Tree Festival and for the concert by Brewood Singers in church on December 17. Tickets are £10 and include mulled wine and a mince pie. They are available from Mike Coope on 700426 or 07774 844519; his email is ; or ask any of the welcomers when you come to church. There will be a raffle at the concert in support of Acorns Hospice for Children.

Join us for celebration, worship and prayer, bringing a new focus upon Christ – the light of love and hope in our lives. Do try to join us and Bishop Clive on Christmas Eve or come to church on Christmas Day when we can truly say ‘Joy to the world – the Lord has come’. (Isaac Watts 1719- Psalm 98)

God Bless, be kind to yourself and others this Christmas – and please fill the box with your thoughts!
