‘Churchwardens’ Chat’

We are now in an interregnum following the retirement of the Vicar and so the monthly letter for the Parish News is written by the Churchwardens

In this quiet moment, make a better me…! (John Gowans)
(Recorded by The International Staff Songsters of The Salvation Army – YouTube 8/6/2020)

A few weeks ago in church, Ken played a recording of the International Songsters of the Salvation Army singing In This Quiet Moment and the words have stayed with me.

They apply to all of us as we ask God to bless us with guidance and the light of Christ, to make a better church, enrich the community and to ‘make a better me.

St. Chad’s Parochial Church Council recently had its planning day in which we follow our mission as we continue to work to make a better church. We thank those who left feedback in the comments/suggestions box. We had a small response but all comments
are valued and influence our planning and decision making.

You will all know from announcements in church and on ChadNet that in January we met Bishop Clive and soon we will be advertising for a new vicar, an appointment which will help us to be more effective in doing God’s work in Pattingham, Patshull and beyond.

Part of this is our Eco Church work which continues and we have worked hard to incorporate ‘eco’ values in all our plans.

We look forward to better weather, when there will be more opportunities to share the outdoors and the wonders of creation.

February 24 marks the one-year anniversary of the outbreak of war in Ukraine when Russia invaded. That day in 2022 began with missile attacks at 05:07 and we are saddened that as the anniversary approaches, Russia is still occupying territory and
attacking Ukraine.

The suffering, loss of life and devastation have been immense. Families torn apart as children have moved to other countries (including the UK) for safety and to be able to continue their education. The turmoil in Russia with men being called to fight has also resulted in terrible loss of life.

We continue to hold prayers for peace and our group remains committed to seeking God’s help and comfort through prayer for all who suffer. If you can join us in prayer please do come along.

The start of 2023 seems to have brought lots of coughs colds, flu and Covid, so stay as safe as you can and if you or a neighbour is in need of any help do please get in touch.

We continue to offer Home Communion to anyone who cannot get out of the house so let us know if you would like a visit.

God Bless
