‘Churchwardens’ Chat’

We are now in an interregnum following the retirement of the Vicar and so the monthly letter for the Parish News is written by the Churchwardens

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it

– John 1

Welcome to Epiphany! This is the time when we remember the journey of the Magi or Wise Men, following the star to bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to baby Jesus.

Epiphany reminds us that Jesus was both human and divine and brings light to the world.

We hope you have enjoyed celebrating Christmas and were able to attend one of our services. We are grateful to our organist Martin and the choir for giving us some of our favourite carols and Christmas music and some beautiful anthems in our many services.

Perhaps over the Christmas period you enjoyed hearing our church bells, ringing out the joy of Christmas and the celebration of the birth of Christ. As we start the New Year, we would like to thank our team of bellringers not just for their work over Christmas but also for the part they play in our worship, by ringing every week. Special thanks to the Master of Bells and Tower, Geoffrey Dann.

We also wish to say a huge Thank You to Margaret Harris and the team of Flower Guild members who provided such beautiful Christmas displays and work year-round to share their skills arranging church flowers.

Finally, we want to thank Gena and Mike Richards, (did you know it is Mike who puts the light up Stars on our Tower!) who together with our Verger Mandy Allsebrook work so hard looking after our church.

Please do get in touch if you or anyone known to you would like to receive home Communion, we shall be pleased to arrange it.

At the time of writing we have yet to hear whether our advertisement for a vicar received any applicants. Please pray for the PCC and all who continue to work to achieve God’s plan. We shall report next month what our next steps shall be.

We continue to pray for a peaceful world; join us at one of our services, to give thanks for the blessings we have and to pray for the places around the world where there is war and conflict. Our Prayers for Peace start again at 6pm on Tuesday January 9.

We are truly thankful to all visiting clergy and to our own Readers, Ken Scott and Iain Coleman, all of whom have helped make sure our third Advent and Christmas without a vicar was a joyous celebration of the coming and birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

We wish you all a healthy and fulfilled 2024 when we can share the joy of Christ’s coming and live His Word!

God Bless
