The Vicar’s monthly letter for the Parish News

The VicarJuly 2018

This month I am unashamedly pinching some information from a recent Diocesan mailing…..
East meets West

It’s a delight to have a large group of bishops and friends from our companion dioceses in SE Asia with us for a week in July to share experiences and teaching on discipleship in the 21st Century.

Their programme includes a day in each episcopal area, seeing projects run by parishes, schools, fresh expressions and chaplaincies sharing worship and teaching with congregations across the diocese and signing new partnership agreements together.

The goal is to enable as many people in Lichfield Diocese as possible to have the chance to meet and hear members of the group which includes the Archbishop of SE Asia, the Rt Revd Moon Hing. This will be primarily through a series of evening and Sunday services to which all are welcome:

  • Wolverhampton – Wednesday 11 July
  • Shrewsbury – Thursday 12 July
  • Trentham – Friday 13 July

On Saturday 14 July, Archbishop Moon Hing will lead a day seminar on Advanced Intentional Discipleship to which a selection of key lay and ordained leaders will be invited. And in the afternoon there will be a service celebrating the renewal of the partnership between this and the Malaysian dioceses.

On Sunday 15 July, the visitors will scatter to the four corners of the diocese to take part in services in parishes with existing or new links.

It is good to be reminded that, while our thoughts tend of necessity to be focussed on our own small corner of Staffordshire, we are part of a world-wide Anglican Communion, so I do hope some of you will have the opportunity to see and meet with some of our visitors…

Meanwile – back at home – Century Club! Yes folks, this is the time of year to renew your subscription to our very own kind of lottery – but one that offers you a much greater chance of winning something than the national kind. I think there are still some vacancies (which means there’s an even better chance of winning!) and we are looking for new subscribers, but for all regular members, it is now time to pay your annual contribution of £60 ….. but that only works out to £5.00 per month. What a bargain! Monthly prizes of £150, £100 and £50. Profits go towards our outreach to the community and maintenance at St Chad’s.

Please contact Steve Jones at Sunningdale, Great Moor Road, Pattingham or telephone 700395

Good luck and every blessing!

Maureen.

PS. Warmest Congratulations to Mrs Jill Parker on being awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List last month… Well done Jill!
