‘Churchwardens’ Chat’

We are now in an interregnum following the retirement of the Vicar and so the monthly letter for the Parish News is written by the Churchwardens

Lord, thy Word abideth, and our footsteps guideth
Henry Williams Baker 1824-1877

We hope you were able to join in some of our Coronation weekend events and, most of all, that you had a memorable time!

The celebrations included a community ‘Litter Pick’ which also formed a part of our commitment to Eco work. Many thanks to our ‘regular’ litter pickers and to all who joined in on the day.

We now look forward to welcoming Bishop Michael who will visit us on Sunday June 11 to lead a service of confirmation for candidates from across our deanery, including eight young people from our own congregation. Please pray for them all.

One of the highlights of our summer events is of course our Fete on Saturday July 1. We would appreciate volunteers to help with a whole range of tasks, including manning the gates, helping to put up stalls, baking for the cake stall or donating bottles and prizes for the tombola.

There is a job for everyone so please do contact Anna (07968 891 927) if you can spare an hour to help set up/clear away, or to let her know how you can support this lovely family village event.

Dates for your diary: The Holiday Club will take place on Monday August 7 and Tuesday August 8 and will be two fun-filled adventure days at The Kingswood Trust in Albrighton. Full details, costs and application forms will be published soon; places are limited to 30 children and the club is aimed at all 4- to 12-year-olds from our village or from the neighbouring areas, who attend any school.

Last month we reminded everyone of the churchyard regulations and the survey which will take place during the summer. Please read this extract from the regulations and take time to make any necessary changes to the plot you are responsible for. The survey will take place in August and we are trying to give you plenty of time to make any changes/removals. If you have any worries or concerns please do not hesitate to speak to us or to Ken, Iain or Gena.

Flowers and other Items. Artificial flowers are not permitted and should be removed from any memorials on which they are laid. By way of exception to this prohibition the placing of wreaths and poppies is permissible in the periods of and leading up to Remembrance Day, Christmas, and Easter and on the anniversaries of death or marriage. Such items are to be removed not more than one month after those occasions. If the items are not removed by those who placed them on the memorials within that period, they should be removed by the churchwardens or a person authorised by them.
No balloons or other portable items are to be left on a grave save that such items may be left in position for the period of one calendar month after interment. If the items are not then removed by those who placed them on the grave they should be removed by the churchwardens or a person authorised by them.

Finally, please continue to pray for a new vicar to fill our vacant post, to lead us and support us in our mission, carrying out God’s work in our community.
