View from the Pews

Stars!
I was walking up the church path and looked down from the grey skies to catch a glimpse of the ‘stars’ on the path. It took me back to the planning committee for the Follow the Star Festival (December 2024), with Jill and Martin Parker leading the discussions. Someone questioned if the spray paint for the stars would wash away afterwards and I (with much more enthusiasm than knowledge), optimistically assured everyone that yes, the stars would wash away, disappearing like the morning mist after the next heavy rain!
Well, I was wrong! The faint memory of the stars can still be seen after many rainstorms and frosts.
Looking at the stars makes me remember that our ‘star’, the star of our faith, is the Holy Trinity, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Although our painted stars have not (yet) washed away, they are fading and soon shall disappear, unlike the ‘star’ of our faith which remains constant.
The (Nicene) Creed which we say every Sunday, (…One Holy catholic and apostolic church) reminds us we are ONE, together worshipping, and HOLY because we have Our Lord Jesus Christ who died for us; CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC meaning universal, across the world following the Apostles. These are the principles and foundations by which we worship and try to live our lives.
Next time you are in church, saying the familiar words of The Creed, take a moment with me, to give thanks for the firm foundations of our faith and assurance, given for us, by the sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ, crucified, risen and ascended!
God Bless,
Dorothy Steel

Dementia Friendly Church
Weekly Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Grant me the gift of profound insight and understanding as I navigate the labyrinth journey of dementia caregiving. This path is fraught with the unexpected and the unknown and I humbly seek your guidance. Help me see beyond the fog of confusion that envelops my loved one, allowing me to glimpse the person they once were.
May I find strength to cherish the fleeting moments of clarity and to recognise the beauty within their unique journey. I offer my heartfelt gratitude for this sacred privilege and for the wisdom you bestow upon me.
Amen
