ChadNet - the eBulletin of St Chad's Church, Pattingham
        with Patshull

Welcome to the 34th edition of ChadNet – the eBulletin of St Chad’s Church, Pattingham with Patshull.

Church closed for services but open for private prayer

As we all know new restrictions came into force last week. That means that there will no longer be any services in church at least until early December. The church will be open for private prayer, although not all day. The times may vary depending when the keyholders are able to open and close the church. Look out for the “church open” sign outside the porch. Please observe the instructions in the notice on the door, which include the need to wear a face covering, using hand sanitiser and not going into the church if someine else is already in there.

View from the Pews

Dave Sampson

A small light at the end of a long tunnel.

As we continue into our month of “Lockdown” in England we have had some positive and most welcome news this week regarding a vaccine to prevent Coronavirus. We are told that the initial results seem very good and that there is a strong possibility of it becoming widely available in the not too distant future. This is what we have been hoping and indeed praying for over the last 34 weeks that Chadnet has been running. Something to cheer us up; now that the clocks have gone back and the days are getting shorter we are all feeling that life getting back to normal seems a very long way off. We are not there yet but this does seem to be a big step in the right direction, but time will tell as it always does.

Last week’s Remembrance Service was, I felt, excellent given the difficulties of it having to be pre-recorded. Well done, all those who took part. We so look forward to being able to meet and worship in St. Chad’s once more, whenever that may be.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Liz and I have been very fortunate during these challenging times as we have not had to remain at home daily but have carried on almost as normal on the farm where we work. Social distancing is not a problem there! Crops have been planted and now harvested since the start of these problems; and we in this Parish, along with all others, have thanked God for the fact that “All is safely gathered in”. One thing that means to us that winter is coming took place on the farm this week when all of the cows and their calves came into their winter quarter buildings. The grass has almost stopped growing and  the fields are no longer able to provide enough food for them so they are now indoors living on food which was produced and stored back in the summer months. It will be Spring before they live outside once more and we hope that by then the light at the end of that tunnel will be shining much more brightly.

Stay safe all and take care

Dave Sampson

Would you like to contribute your View from the Pews?

We have now had a range of contributions to View from the Pews. You will have noticed that it started with members of the PCC but has now been expanded to include others. We are looking for more volunteers. Contact me if you would like to offer to contribute to this.

December magazine and Christmas cards

The PCC has decided to put back the publication of the December magazine by a week. This is partly to avoid the need for them to be delivered during the current lockdown restrictions but also to ensure that the information it contains about our plans for Christmas and the weeks leading up to it is as up to date as possible. Magazine distributors should receive their magazines on about Friday 4th December.

The Christmas cards which are delivered to all homes in the parish should also be ready at the same time. Those who normally distribute the cards should have received an email (if we have an email address for them).

This bulletin is sent to those who have requested it. We now have 87 subscribers but there may still  be some people who are not aware of it and would wish to receive it. If you know of anyone who might be interested please tell them about it and ask them to sign up using the form on the website (www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/chadnet/sign-up-to-chadnet/) or by email to

Giving to the church

In the current circumstances there will inevitably be a reduction in the money which the church receives. However we will need to continue to pay our bills and we would ask that those who can afford to do so should continue to give regularly. Details of the various ways in which you can give can be found on the Giving page of the website.

If you are paying by cheque please make the cheque payable to “Pattingham PCC” or “Pattingham Parochial Church Council“.

The weekly bulletin for each Sunday will normally be sent on the preceding Friday or Saturday. Additional bulletins may be sent if required. It is only being sent to those who have requested it. If you know of anyone who might be interested please tell them about it and ask them to sign up using the form on the website (www.pattinghamchurch.org.uk/web/information/chadnet/sign-up-to-chadnet/) or by email to
